Easter is always one of those holidays that was difficult to find new ways to celebrate with my youth ministry. Its not like they haven't heard the story of Easter before, so how to you present something different...and an egg hunt just doesn't hold its same appeal once you reach High School. Here are a few articles and events that might inspire you as you prepare for the upcoming season.
Easter Message Inspiration LifeTeen is always a good place to turn to when gathering ideas. Yes, most of their resources are under their paid subscription, but they have a bunch of solid staff members around the country to contribute to their blog on a regular basis and about a myriad of topics. Here are some regarding Easter: https://lifeteen.com/blog/category/faith/liturgical-seasons/easter/
Easter Event Idea I always loved the Springtime because it was a chance to re-introduce people to being outside. So one of my favorite events to hold as a celebration of Easter was a Bigger or Better Scavenger Hunt. There is very little preparation needed and it has always been a highlight of the year, and it gets people outside of the Youth Room/Parish Hall/Newman Center. Click the link below for a rundown of the event. https://thesource4ym.com/bigger-and-better-hunt-aka-trade-up/ If you want it to be extra "Easter-y", you can always use an egg for the starter item. When they get back, they present what they ended up with and tell the stories of their adventure and have some fun snacks to round out the evening. One time, I had a group come back with a Corvette! Ok, so it kind of broke the rules since we didn't get to keep it, but it was a pretty sweet car and they let everyone get in and have their pictures in the Corvette.
Enjoy these last few weeks of Lent, especially Holy Week and have a Happy Easter!!
