Before preparing to lead the Ignite Rally in Wheeling, our youth board took a little time to love others beyond that first. They spent a day in service at the 18th Street Center with Catholic Charities, helping to clean, tidy, and organize so that the center continue the good work they already do in hospitality, opening their doors to those who need a hot meal and a warm place to go for the day. They had a lot of fun and we're proud of them for taking time to help.
Ignite Youth Rally in Wheeling
On February 10th, we had our second Ignite Rally for this year, held in Wheeling. We were very excited to have such great attendance (about 145 teens) and two incredible speakers join us, all of which allowed for a really fun and faith-filled day. Father Agustino Torres, from the Bronx, reminded our young people that God never lets us down--that He keeps all His promises. Our other speaker, Scott Anthony, is one of our favorites to have come because he connects so well as a professional youth minister and speaker, and he framed the important roles of four things every human wants: love, peace, purpose, and happiness. Whether in the joyful "fellowship" of rocket wars and tortilla pictionary, or the message of love spoken to our young people through our speakers allowing the holy spirit to use them as holy vessels of evangelization, it was obvious to see the Lord's Kingdom alive and growing in the youth of our diocese that day. Lastly, we're grateful to have had Msgr. Paul Hudock and Deacon Wharton join Father Agustino for Mass at the cathedral with all our youth as well! We look forward to the two upcoming rallies, first in Charleston in March and then rescheduled in Inwood in April (can't let the snow beat us!).
Mid Atlantic Congress
Staff and volunteers from throughout our diocese gathered again in Baltimore with fellow ministers from a variety of dioceses in our region for a conference on Christian leadership in the middle of February. This year's theme was "Prophetic Discipleship" and those who attended were given the opportunity to hear more about our prophetic call from a number of excellent keynoters and presenters. It was a privilege to have Mass said by our current apostolic administrator, Archbishop Lori. Youth office staff enjoyed getting to participate with other diocesan staff, as well as those ministers from around WV who also took the time to attend and get renewed. Additionally, it was a wonderful opportunity to have a booth in the exhibit hall, talk about the good work our pastoral centers do, and highlight the opportunity to come to Manus Christi and Camp Bosco.
We are so excited to continue the fun we've been having this spring as the youth office has been visiting many schools, parishes, and campus ministry centers! Check out our calendar of upcoming events here: Calendar
