It's November. And when November comes around, I know only one thing comes to mind...decorating for Christmas! Wait, No. That's not what I meant. I meant to say Thanksgiving (even though the Christmas decorations and music may be starting to creep in if I'm being totally honest with you). But really, it is a beautiful phenomenon to see even the secular culture set aside a day to take note of the blessings we have received. So how can we as a Church enter into the Thanksgiving holiday in a new way? Below you will find a compilation of several blogs and sites that may give you some new ideas for your parish's or family's Thanksgiving celebration this year.
Catholic Culture's "Overview for the Month" The folks over at CatholicCulture.org put together a number of things for each month, including the Holy Father's monthly intentions, the feasts of the month, the focus of the Sunday Liturgies, and information on any particular feasts or holidays...and of course Thanksgiving is one of the featured celebrations this month. "8 Tips" from the LifeTeen Blog Maddy Bernero from LifeTeen has a thought-provoking blog post about Thanksgiving. Its a challenge to not only make this Thanksgiving Day special, but to make it the beginning of a lifestyle of thanksgiving. Its good stuff: https://lifeteen.com/blog/year-round-thanksgiving/
"I'm Full" Video from the Skit Guys Tommy Woodward and Eddie James are "The Skit Guys". They have hundreds of videos and skits that are very well done and useful in many situations. They are not Catholic, but generally their stuff still works in Catholic settings...but its something to consider before using it in some scenarios. Last week, our staff was together and we used this video as a reflection on how we can be living a life of gratitude in mores substantial ways. It offers some humor in the midst of giving a powerful thought. Here you go: https://skitguys.com/videos/im-full
Thanksgiving Prayers from Franciscan Media Franciscan Media in Cincinnati has several ways to enhance the way that families celebrate Thanksgiving. Some of these could be great offerings for the parents in your parish. https://www.franciscanmedia.org/thanksgiving/
