Stealing Time Here we hear from Cory and his journey to regain the little moments of life. The empty moments that we all fill with something productive or unproductive. Just like Cory many of us fill our time with Facebook or Instagram, for some of us its filling our time with the latest version of Flappy Bird that has come out. On one of the most important weeks of his life- the birth of his son- Cory decides to get off social media and experience the world and regain the little moments.
Recently Apple came out with the new IOS 12, oh course there are some bugs here and there but overall I think the new IOS system was a success. Why am I telling you this? Within the new IOS there is a new aspect to settings- Screen Time. This setting allows you to limit how long you can be on Social Media, Games, or general phone usage. I tried it out for a week and I can honestly say that it helped me stay away from Facebook and my other social media outlets. However, I found myself half way through the week going to the games I have downloaded in my spare moments. This was easily fixed with another addition within my settings.
Our young people today are constantly bombarded with notifications, friend requests, likes, comments, snap streaks, and so much more that there seems to be no way but to use social media. Asking our kids to completely disconnect for a day, a week, a month (heck, even for lent) can be too much. Many of their sports, extracurricular activities, or even their youth groups reach out via social media, so instead finding ways to challenge young people to find a specific time of day to disconnect or to make a specific plan to when they will use their twitter or instagram, and give themselves a chance to have small moments again. Using these small moments to call a friend they haven't talked to in awhile, to pray, to simply sit in silence for a few moments and be still.
